Abstract
In recent years, significant progress has been made in the engineering application of superconducting cables worldwide, and multiple high-temperature superconducting cable lines are integrated into the commercial power grid for operation. On December 22, 2021, the world’s first 35 kV kilometer level high-temperature superconducting cable project (hereinafter referred to as Xuhui project) was officially put into operation in Xuhui District, one of the central urban areas of Shanghai, providing power to 49000 households in the area, with an annual power supply exceeding 1.8×108 kW·h. Xuhui project demonstrates the advantages of superconducting cables in construction of large-scale urban power grid for megacity. The design, construction, and operation of Xuhui Project were introduced in this article.
