    • By reviewing technical requirements, scope of application, and evolution of the two important standards General Specification for Electrical Wires and Cables of Naval Ships (GJB 774A—2020) and General Specification for Low Smoke Wires and Cables used in Shipboard (GJB 1916A—2022) in the field of shipboard cables in China, their impact on design, manufacturing, and application is explored. GJB 774A—2020 is a general specification that replaces General Specifications of Electrical Cable and Cord for Military Shipboard Use (GJB 774—1989), providing specific material performance requirements and adding specific indicators for low smoke and halogen-free cables, while GJB 1916A—2022 is a revision of General Specification for Low Smoke Naval Ship Cable and Cord (GJB 1916—1994), but the revised content is relatively broad and still requires corresponding detailed and standardized support. GJB 774A—2020 is applicable to wires and cables for power, lighting, control, communication, instrumentation, and electronic equipment of various types of ships, while GJB 1916A—2022 mainly targets low smoke power cables, equipment cables, communication cables, and comprehensive cables for ships.
