Structural Design of Large-Cross-Section Circular Compacted Conductors for Submarine Cables

To meet design and application requirements of compacted round stranded conductor construction for submarine cables, conductor outer diameter, monofilament diameter, stranded outer diameter, post-compaction outer diameter, compaction reduction per layer, and number of monofilaments were calculated. Conductor structures for 630 mm² and 1800 mm² specifications were designed and optimized, and their DC resistances were measured. Results showed that DC resistances of two conductors at 20 °C were 2.81×10⁻⁸ and 1.008×10⁻⁸ Ω·mm⁻¹ respectively, meeting the standard requirements. Finally, the structural design and process optimization of compacted round stranded conductor were discussed.
